Where to find local produce in Oakville this summer

Share:

There are plenty of reasons to eat local produce: it’s fresher, more sustainable and it supports local farmers. Now that summer is here, it’s easier than ever to find local food near our communities in Oakville. If you’d like to know what’s in season before you do your shopping, take a look at this guide from Foodland Ontario.

Farmers Markets
For a variety of local farmers, sweets, dairy products and coffee, visit the Oakville Place Farmers Market (240 Leighland Avenue). This market is open every Tuesday and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. beginning in June.

You’ll find local farmers, artisanal products and a selection of plants for your apartment at the Oakville Civitan Farmers Market. Stop by Dorval Crossing (200-240 North Service Road West) between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. every Saturday until the end of November to catch this market.

The Oakville Place Farmers Market is less than ten minutes from The Anchorage at 75 Stewart Street and 444 Kerr Street, while the Civitan Farmers Market is less than five minutes away.

Specialty Grocery Stores
For weeks when you can’t make it to the Farmers Market, many grocery stores also carry Ontario produce.

Organic Garage
This independent health food store at 579 Kerr Street carries a wide range of organic and health food products. You’ll always find fresh organic fruits and vegetables, and the store tries to partner with local farms whenever possible.

Whole Foods
You’ll find a wide range of organic products at this health-focused supermarket at 301 Cornwall Road. While their large produce section is often filled with imported goods, you can expect to see plenty of local fruits and vegetables as they come in season.

If you’re feeling brave and decide to try some new Ontario fruits or vegetables this summer, Foodland Ontario is a great resource to learn about Ontario agriculture and seasonal recipes.
