Classic Chocolate Fudge Recipe
This recipe is for old-fashioned classic chocolate fudge. It is easy to make and requires no special equipment or ingredients. Before the fudge is poured into its cooling pan you can stir in any number of extra toppings like chopped nuts, chocolate chips, and candy pieces. Safeway grocery store is located less than a five-minute drive away from our 123 10th Avenue South West apartments, and is a convenient place to get all of your DIY fudge ingredients.
Ingredients:
- 2 cups white sugar
- ¼ cup cocoa powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 cup whole milk
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 2 teaspoons vanilla
Equipment:
- Measuring cups (and spoons)
- Sauce pan
- Whisk
- Spatula
- Wooden spoon
- Pyrex pie plate or dish
- Thermometer (optional)
- Knife
Instructions (makes 8-10 one-inch squares):
- Add the sugar, cocoa powder, and salt to your saucepan. Add milk and whisk until blended.
- Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat. Stir occasionally to avoid burning.
- While the fudge is cooking, butter the pan that will hold the fudge. Fill a glass with ice and water and set next to the stove. Fill your sink with several inches of cold water.
- The fudge should be cooked after 10 minutes of boiling. You can use a thermometer (optional), and fudge is ready to set when it reaches 235 °F. If not using a thermometer, you can use the soft-ball test here.
- When your fudge is done, turn off the heat and stir in the vanilla and butter. Remove from the stove and place the hot pan of fudge into the sink of cold water.
- Pour the fudge into the buttered pan
- Allow the fudge to cool (takes around one hour in room temperature), and cut. Use a thin-bladed sharp knife to cut the fudge.
- Enjoy!
