Fall pantry staples to stock up on

Partager:

Keeping a supply of stable, staple foods on hand is always a good idea. These days, it may be more important than ever. Keep in mind that hoarding is never a good idea. Don't stock up on more than your fair share, and only buy what you will actually consume. If you want to make fewer trips to the grocery store, as well as enjoy the convenience of never running out of ingredients and the sense of security that comes from being well-stocked, Hazelview is here to help. Here are some fall pantry staples to stock up on.

Jars and cans can go a long way

Non-perishable is a key concept for stocking a pantry. Make sure you purchase items that you and your family will enjoy eating. A dozen cans of baked beans won't do you any good if no one likes them. Look for canned foods that can easily be turned into a great meal. Canned tomatoes and sauces are pasta essentials. Corn or green beans can elevate a stew or casserole or make for a low-effort but delicious side dish.

Stock your cupboards with carbs

Chilly fall weather will likely leave you craving comfort foods. Make sure your cupboards are full of flour and other baking ingredients like baking powder, yeast, sugar and baking soda. A loaf of fresh-baked bread makes fall feel fantastic. Dried pasta, rice, quinoa, and oats are also perfect for the pantry.

Pack your pantry with protein

Beans are a great shelf-stable protein choice. Dried beans will last longer and take up less space than canned. They are great in soups, stews and chilli. A bag of chickpeas and a jar of tahini means you'll be enjoying fresh hummus all autumn long. Canned tuna is an obvious option, but don't overlook other canned fish and seafood -- such as salmon, mackerel, sardines and smoked oysters. Not a fish fan? No problem! Look for canned chicken or turkey that can be used just like canned tuna. A can of corned beef, along with some onions and potatoes, can create a hearty fall hash in no time.

Keep fresh

Fresh foods including potatoes, yams, onions, squash and apples can be stored for weeks or even months in a cool, dry, dark place. These fall favourites will keep fresh and ensure you never have to go without fresh-baked apple pie.

We hope these fall pantry staples help you make the most out of what you have on hand.
