July 1st is the annual Windsor’s Canada Day Celebration & Parade. The event includes Midway rides, a parade, children’s entertainment and an incredible 5000-piece birthday cake! The grand finale to Windsor’s 17-day Summer Fest, this is a free family-friendly event not to be missed. The parade kicks off at Wyandotte Street East & Devonshire Road, about a 10-minute bicycle ride from Carnegie Apartments (450 Victoria Avenue).
Fort Malden National Historic Site
History will come alive at the Fort Malden National Historic Site’s Canada Day celebration, slated for July 1st. A full day of family-friendly activities will end with a spectacular fireworks show over the Detroit River. Fort Malden is an easy day trip from Alexander Park Apartments (3445 Riverside Drive East), about a 30-minute drive.
Ice Cream Festival
Love ice cream? Do your kids love playing in the water on a hot summer day? The Ice Cream Festival in Amherstburg has all the ingredients for a perfect Canada Day party. The fun kicks off at 9:00 a.m. on July 1st and ends with fireworks at 10:00 p.m. Admission is free. To get to Toddy Jones Park (100 Laird Street), plan on just under a 30 minute drive from Spanish Trio Apartments (8950/8955/9150 Wyandotte Street East).
Stoney Point Park
Family baseball, soccer, a skateboard competition and live music makes Stoney Point Park (880 Comber Sideroad) the place to be this holiday. The park, a half-hour drive from King Edward Apartments (1333 Ouellette Avenue), is perfectly located along the water. Enjoy a parade at 4:00 p.m. and stay for the flag raising ceremony shortly thereafter.
