Summer is here and that means it's time to get outside and explore! Whether you're new in town or have lived in Montreal for years, this city's neighbourhoods change constantly (thanks to new businesses and developments and closures) and are always worth rediscovering. The Plateau is the ultimate hip Montreal neighbourhood and is always well worth a visit. Get our best tips for enjoying it to the fullest.
Incredible food adventures
There's no denying it, Montreal is foodie heaven. There are countless outstanding restaurants and food vendors to discover here, and the Plateau is an excellent area to frequent for foods from all over the globe. Our current favourite spots include La Banquise for simply spectacular poutine, P'tit Plateau for fine French fare, Ichigo Ichie Izakaya for Japanese pub style fare, Aux Vivres Plateau for vegan dishes, Ma Poule Mouillee for grilled Portuguese chicken and fries, Le Virunga for African eats, and Lasagna du Plateau for exquisite pasta.
Chic shops
Montreal is always a step ahead when it comes to fashion and style. We love shopping there and the Plateau has an endless number of chic shops to visit when you have time to spare. The area is home to some fabulous vintage shops. Our current favourites include Annex Vintage, Le Drop Shop, RE-UP, L N F, CUL DE SAC and Hadio Friperie Vintage. When it comes to chic boutiques, we love RUSE Boutique, Le Trunkshop, Boutique Unicorn, ONZE Montreal and Marche Floh.
Cool cafés
The Plateau is peppered with countless cool cafés. They're the perfect place to kick back and relax with an espresso or latte while you catch up on your reading or people watching. They're also great places to indulge in a light meal or dessert. Our favourite cafés du jour include Le Depanneur for coffee and a big brunch; Café Nocturne for craft coffee, bagels and pastry; Noble Café for coffee and soft serve on a nice patio; Le Club Café Cycliste for coffee, snacks and handy bike repairs; and Café la Chouette for excellent coffees and sugar cookies.
Pretty parks
There's no shortage of breathtaking and fun greenspace in the Plateau. There are almost too many parks to list, so here are our favourites. For those who love to picnic and admire a great water feature, head to Park La Fontaine and Lahaie Park. For those on the hunt for great playgrounds, Jean Jacques Olier Park, Parc Baldwin and Devonshire Park will fit the bill.
There’s always something new and amazing to discover in the Plateau in Montreal! That’s a big reason why it’s such a fabulous neighbourhood to call home.
