Perfect plants for your balcony garden

Partager:

A container garden is a beautiful, inexpensive and convenient way to enjoy a garden from the comfort of your own apartment. Today on the blog, Hazelview Properties will provide you with our top plant recommendations for container gardens, along with local places to shop near our Brampton Apartments.

Verbena

Verbena is a fantastic container garden plant as it flowers consistently in the summer and long into the cooler fall months. There are also many different colours of verbena to choose from, whether it’s deep red or bright blue. Verbena needs good drainage, food every couple of weeks and only an average amount of water, as they are drought tolerant.

Vegetables and Herbs

There is a huge variety of veggies and herbs that can be conveniently grown in containers. Dwarf or bush forms of vegetables such as squash, tomatoes and pumpkin are available for container culture and easy to work with and maintain. You could also try planting a number of edible flowers that work well in containers, such as marigolds, pansies and nasturtiums.

Annuals

As the name suggests, annuals are the perfect addition to both your summer and winter container garden. These multi-tasking plants bloom throughout the summer and still have foliage that remains attractive and active into the winter. Try plants such as geraniums, marigolds and begonias.

Shrubs

Another easy option for your container garden is to incorporate a variety of shrubs. Shrub types that work well for container gardening include ferns and ornamental grasses. Shrubs are easy to maintain and require minimal water and effort.

Where to buy?

There are a number of great local nurseries and plant shops in Brampton. Our recommendations include Lakeside Garden Gallery, Humber Nurseries, Nature's Grove Garden Centre and The Gardening Place. Lakeside Garden Gallery is less than a ten-minute drive from Hazelview’s 25 Rambler Drive Community.
