Give back this holiday season by volunteering your time or donating goods to a worthy cause. Hazelview Properties’ Brantford Apartments are located in some of the most convenient and central parts of the city just minutes from the heart of downtown Brantford.
The Salvation Army
Every Christmas the Salvation Army’s Wyndfield Community Church and Family Services looks for volunteers to help out with its Christmas events. These include their Christmas Kettle Drive, donation letter distribution, as well as holiday food baskets and toys for Brantford’s families in need. Volunteers are greatly needed for the church’s Food Bank program, where people help to stock shelves, sort products and assist in the general maintenance of the area. If you are interested in volunteering with the Salvation Army’s Community and Family Services, visit www.salvationarmyvolunteers.com or contact Will Ratelband for more information at (519) 752-7814.
Soup for the Soul Meal Program
Every Monday and Thursday St. Andrew’s United Church hosts their Soup for the Soul Program. This program strives to enable all people the opportunity to have a free, nutritious meal and social support services. Patrons include youth under 16, seniors, those with disabilities, as well as unemployed, working poor and homeless people. The Soup for the Soul program is always looking for volunteers, although there is more demand during the holiday season. Financial donations to the organization are also gladly accepted. St. Andrew’s United Church is a five-minute walk from Hazelview’s Brantford Community at 150 Darling Street.
Brantford Food Bank
The Brantford Food Bank is a community-based organization dedicated to meeting the essential needs of economically stressed individuals and families for food and employment. The Brantford Food Bank accepts fresh, frozen and non-perishable food donations through individual, corporate and community group contributions and food drives. Nonperishable items that are most needed include canned pasta and stews, canned fruit, vegetables and tomatoes, canned meat and peanut butter. Food can be dropped off Monday through Friday at 1100 Clarence Street South, which is a five-minute drive from 28 Helen Avenue.
Other Places to Donate
Additional local places to donate various items include Habitat for Humanity, St. Vincent De Paul, the Heart and Stroke Foundation and Red Cross. Habitat for Humanity Brantford is currently looking for used furniture, lighting and construction supplies. St. Vincent De Paul is looking for gently used clothing, toys and furniture. Consider donating your gently used items to these causes or others that you are passionate about this holiday season and year round.
This season is all about giving. You can help your local community this Christmas by volunteering your time and donating goods to places and causes that you are passionate about.
