Summer is in full swing and it’s time to get out and explore Alberta! Itching to get out of Calgary? Pack up the car and take an Alberta day trip to one of these dreamy destinations nearby.
Blackfoot Crossing Historical Park
Blackfoot Crossing Historical Park is located on Siksika First Nation. It was a gathering place, wintering ground, place to cross the Bow River and the location where Treaty 7 was signed. You can make an appointment to tour the museum and beautiful grounds. A knowledgeable guide will lead you through. You can also tour the grounds solo.
Canmore and Banff National Park
Canmore Alberta is a town known as the gateway to Banff National Park. It’s a breathtaking destination where many fun activities can be enjoyed. If you like to hike, the Grassi Lake trail and Ha Ling Peak trail are great options. If culture is more your thing, explore the Canmore Nordic Centre, Canmore Museum and Geo Science Centre. If you’re after some action and adventure, be sure to book a scenic raft tour or book a cave tour for an adventure in the dark. If you or someone you are traveling with is a senior, or has a physical disability, be sure to check out the Cycling without Age trishaw rides the town offers on Mondays! Seniors or persons with disabilities who have limited mobility can book a one-hour ride to see the sights by bike while someone else does the pedaling. If you choose to explore Banff National Park, you’ll be rewarded with stunning views of Rocky Mountain peaks, pristine glacial lakes, an adorable mountain town and village, wildlife and more. It is Canada’s first national park and the perfect place to enjoy many activities like hiking, biking, skiing and camping.
The Jungle Farm
Day trips with kids in tow can be a challenge, so it’s best to go somewhere that’s ready and waiting for them! A visit to The Jungle Farm in Innisfail in July or August will be well worth the trip. It’s a family-run farm that dates back to the 1800s. In summer, you and your kiddos can pick your own juicy strawberries on the farm while you take in the beautiful scenery. They are a delicious and nutritious snack on their own, but you can use them in homemade pies and cakes as well for a special treat.
Drumheller
If you or your kids are interested in dinosaurs and history, you have to visit Drumheller. It’s the dinosaur capital of the world! Be sure to pay a visit to the Royal Tyrrell Museum, check out the jaws of the world’s largest dinosaur and explore the Canadian Badlands. You can do it all by driving along the Dinosaur Trail.
We hope you hit the road this summer and enjoy one of these amazing days trips from Calgary with your friends, family or even solo!
