One of the sure signs of spring is the return of the Waterloo Marathon. This event, happening near our Waterloo apartments, is a great way to get outdoors and experience the beauty of the area on foot. Today’s post from the Hazelview Properties blog team includes additional information about the race.
18 years and counting
The 18th annual Waterloo Marathon and Half Marathon will take place this spring on April 24. The race is known for its picturesque course that runs through the heart of Mennonite country. Participants will start and finish at Bechtel Park (185 Bridge Street), under a 10-minute drive from Albert Apartments (383 Albert Street).
Support a charity
Running in a marathon or half marathon is an ambitious workout, certain to improve your health and wellbeing. Choosing the Waterloo Marathon and Half Marathon goes an extra step by helping support the wellbeing of others, too. Proceeds from this race go to support St. John Ambulance, one of the nation’s oldest charities that continues to provide first aid training and volunteer opportunities today.
Get your gear
Prepare for race day by investing in comfortable running clothes that will dry quickly and not chafe against your legs or arms. A trip to the local Running Room (15 King Street South #3) might be in order. Avenue Apartments (137 University Avenue West) are a 20-minute walk from this sports store.
Join a training group
In addition to gear for race day, Runners’ Choice (55 Erb Street East) also hosts training groups to help your body get in shape for the upcoming event. The Marathon/Half Marathon Group currently meets Thursday evenings and Sunday mornings. Runners depart from the store. Runners’ Choice, an independently owned Waterloo boutique, is less than a 10-minute walk from Metropolitan Towers (57 Union Street East).
