For three weeks every winter, Ottawa transforms into a winter wonderland, complete with festivities the entire family can enjoy. Learn more about this upcoming event, happening near our Ottawa apartments, in today’s post from the Hazelview Properties blog team.
The magic of the festival
Winterlude has been a local tradition since 1979. This year, the festival kicks off on January 29th and runs through February 15th. Each day has its own special winter-themed events and activities at multiple locations throughout Ottawa. Use the online schedule to decide which fun festivities you want to add to your calendar.
Explore Crystal Garden
One of three main attractions at Winterlude is the Crystal Garden in Confederation Park (100 Elgin Street). Ice carvers from around the world gather to create extraordinary ice sculptures, which are illuminated at night. The park is an easy 10-minute walk from Warren Arms Apartments (222 MacLaren Street).
A snow playground
Children and adults alike will marvel at the biggest snow playground on the continent, held at Jacques-Cartier Park (Rue Laurier), a five-minute drive from York Towers (145 York Street). Activities at this attraction, including the Ice Hog family and Snowflake Kingdom, are inspired by Canadian winter and Northern traditions.
Icy adventures
Do not miss the fun at the Rideau Canal Skateway this winter. While this is always a fun place to visit during the wintertime, things ramp up during Winterlude with activities including a triathlon and a spirited bed race. In addition, vendors are located along the skateway, offering a warm meal or hot drink to help ward away the winter cold. The skateway is nearly eight kilometres long, running through Ottawa, including the heart of downtown.
Hazelview Properties hopes you and your family will set aside time to experience the magic at Winterlude 2016. For recent news and info, follow the event’s Facebook page. For more information about our Ottawa apartments, visit our website today.
