With the Pan Am and Parapan Am Games quickly approaching, Hazelview Properties has put together a brief overview of this exciting sporting event. About the Pan American/Parapan American Games
The Pan American Games are the world’s third largest international multi-sport games. Both the Pan American and Parapan American Games are held every four years for athletes of the 41 member nations to compete in a host of sporting events and activities. Toronto is home to the games this year, making it the largest multi-sport event ever held in Canada to date. The games will span over 5,300 kilometers in 15 host municipalities and showcase Ontario (and more specifically Toronto) to an international audience. Over 10,000 athletes, coaches and delegates will be competing in over 50 sports at 40 venues.
These games showcase performance, excitement, sportsmanship and competition that everyone can enjoy. Venues for the games include the newly built Pan Am Sports Centre, Etobicoke Olympium, Pan Am Fields, Canadian Tennis Centre, Ryerson Athletic Centre and more. Opening/Closing Ceremonies
The Opening Ceremony of the 2015 Pan American Games takes place on Friday, July 10th at 6:45 p.m. at the Rogers Centre. The Opening Ceremony will be produced and directed by Cirque du Soleil and the production will become the largest event produced by the company. The Closing Ceremony will take place on Sunday, July 26th again beginning at 6:45 p.m. at the Rogers Centre. The Rogers Centre is less than a 30-minute transit ride from Hazelview’s 200 Dufferin Street Community.
Sports
A total of 36 sports, 51 disciplines and 364 medal events will be featured at the Pan American Games. A full list of these sports is available from the Pan American Games official website.
Parapan American Games
The Parapan American Games is scheduled to take place directly after the Pan American Games, from August 7th until the 15th in Toronto. There will be over 1,500 athletes participating in over 15 sports. The Parapan American Games allow athletes from around the world with disabilities to participate in the games on a global scale.
